I met Jim in a Parkinson's chatroom and since I have close friends in the Chattanooga area, we enjoyed talking about that area. We will all miss him very much and I am so sorry for your loss. Yuma Bev

I met Jim in a Parkinsons chat room. He was a kind, caring man. One who always tried to help others with his humor and knowledge of this disease. Through talking with him, I learned he liked sweets, especially pecan pie. I liked to joke with him about this. He knew me as Winni and I will miss him. Mrs, Barker, sometime we would like for you to visit the chat room so we can tell you what a difference he made to a lot of people. We are all thinking of you during this time .

I am so, so sorry to hear of Jim's passing. He was truly one of the finest men I ever knew. I will miss seeing him out working in his yard as I pass by. I know that he is sitting with his Lord and Savior right now. We will miss him, but we will see him again. Ted

I met Jim in the Parkinsons Chat Room. He was a kind, caring man. He always tried to comfort and offer advice to those of us with parkinsons. I know he loved sweets, especially pecan pie. I always joked with him about that. All of us from the chat room are saddened by his passing. We will miss him. To Mrs. Barker, please come and visit us in the chat room sometime. He knew me as Winni and we would love to tell you how much he meant to us.

I am deeply saddened to have learned of Jim's passing. I had the pleasure to meet Jim about 8 years ago. I was his dental hygienist. Jim always had a positive attitude, even when he wasn't at his best. He was sweet, caring and considerate. He was happy when he was leaving the office after his appointment because he would typically go meet his sister for lunch. (he even invited me once to come along!) That was just his kind nature. I will truly miss him. My heart is sad, but I know he is in a better place, in peace. I hope the Lord has a nice, brand new bike for him to ride!
My thoughts and prayers to the family for your loss.

Jim you will be greatly missed. The love and encouragement you shared with us every time we saw you was unexplainable. You were a light to our church and all that you did for us (even tho sometimes unseen) was appreciated. I am so glad that "just inside the gates" you are forever watching over. Marquita you are a blessing to us also. We are here if you need us. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and the rest of the family. I know his church family will really miss him as well. We love you!

I am so sad to hear what has happened to my good friend Jim. My name is Anne but Jim knew me as "Fletch" on Parkinsons chatroom. He always had a laugh with me about the amount of holidays I take. I only chatted with him last week. He invited me to celebrate his upcoming 60th birthday, even though I live in England. He will be such a sad miss. I only wish id got to meet him in person. My thoughts are with all his family and friends.

Wow Jim, you blew me away with your exit. I'm so thankful you left this world in such a painless and kind way. I'm missing you terribly right now. You managed your passing so that none of your friends had to watch you go down that long road that some do when they exit this world. You suffered enough with the parkinsons. You won't be suffering anymore.
I guess what I want to say about this man is...he was a real human. A REAL GOOD human. Jim was always ready to help me...and all his friends and neighbors. The whole neighborhood is going to be grieving for awhile. I've never known a community that was so close and...just tight. Jim was tight with my mom, Gertrude Broyles. I'm so glad she won't have to know that he is gone. Jim and my mom helped each other so much on a daily basis for many years. I know when she left to go to Dunlap, he was very lonesome for that friendship they shared. He's not lonesome now. I feel like he is watching me and (probably telling me I need to get my car cleaned) and helping me thru this tough time. I want all to remember him in their hearts...that's where he would want to be and he will stay for awhile. It's going to take some time to let him go because we all just thought he would always be there, I guess; mowing the yard(s), working at the church, helping this one in need or that one.
Marquita, my thoughts and prayers are with you. I never had the pleasure of meeting Jim's family, but he talked about his sister all the time. I guess I loved Jim thru my mother's eyes until she left. Then, I got to know Jim personally. The world was a better place with Jim Barker in it.

There are not enough words to describe Jim. He was the most encouraging, kind hearted person that you will have ever meet. He was always the same no matter when or where you saw him. The world has definitely lost a treasure, but heaven has become so much sweeter. I can just imagine him just inside the gates. He will be greatly missed by the whole community. He left behind a wonderful legacy. Love you Jim !!!!

To Jim's Family and friends,

I have known Jim since 1996 and he never failed to have an optimistic attutude, even after learning he had Parkinson's disease. He was always willing to help others out in any way he could. He never met a stranger. Just this past July he helped me by loading up his pick up truck with all of the things from my classroom at Soddy Elementary and moving them to Calvin Donaldson way across town. It would have been very difficult to do without his help. I knew I could always count on him if I needed him. I'll never forget his caring nature and wonderful sense of humor. He was a good friend. He will always hold a special place in my heart. He will be greatly missed.
My thoughts and prayers go out to Jim's family and friends.

It is hard to believe such a beautiful soul is gone so soon! There is not a day that we didn't see our neighbor Jim out working in his yard, walking the neighborhood, or doing something for someone. We automatically would just look for him anytime we left our home to be greeted with a kind hand wave. We love you very much Jim and miss your sweet spirit! We will certainly look back and remember a kindhearted, sweet, and wonderful friend we will never forget!
