Tribute

Ronald Winkler, 66, passed away on May 24, 2020. He served in the U.S. Army and nearly 48 years for the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department, starting his career June 1st, 1972 as a jailer, working his way up to a mounted deputy and ultimately, SWAT Team Armorer, which was the highlight of his life.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Fran Winkler; brothers, Billy Loveless and Rick Winkler; and step-daughter, Lara Owens Thomas.

He is survived by his wife, Becky Winkler; ex-wife, mother of his daughters, Judy Winkler; daughters, Cassidi Thomas and Courtney McKenzie; son, Trey (Kristen) Thomas; sister, Ann (Randy) Helms; grandchildren, Mickale (Jerrick), Carley, Alexis, Marshall, Ali, and Rayden; two great grandchildren; extended family; as well as his law enforcement family. He had multiple horses and dogs over the years, Julie and Bella being his two living Yorkies, that meant the world to him.

The family would like to thank Rodger Brown, HCSO for the assistance in helping care for Ron, as well as Kathy and Holly from Hospice of Chattanooga.

Services will be private with the family.
