Martha “Marty” Jewell Johnson of Soddy-Daisy, Tennessee left this earth unexpectedly but peacefully in her sleep on January 10, 2019 at the age of 75.

Martha was born on March 22, 1943 in Soddy, Tennessee to the late Arthur and Elberta Weese Johnson.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers Donald Vance and Benny Edward; sister Patsy Doyle; infant sister Maxine Diane; and niece Christy Uren.

She is survived by her beloved daughter Meghan Elizabeth Russell (Jeff), and precious young grandchildren Mason Russell and Layla Jewell Russell, She is also survived by her beloved sister Linda Uren and Linda’s husband David of Hixson, Tennessee; special nieces Sheri Doyle and Kelley Doyle who have loving memories of Marty; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Martha was a member of the Refuge Assembly Church in Soddy-Daisy. She often took her grandchildren Mason and little Layla to church with her — Mason especially enjoyed going to church. Marty’s faith allowed her to maintain peace in her heart during her successful battle with cancer.

Martha graduated from Soddy Daisy High School in 1961, and studied at Warren Wilson College. Early on Martha worked at the Volunteer Army Ammunition Plant in Chattanooga, which manufactured the TNT explosive for WWII, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Later Marty worked at Tennessee Valley Authority in the nuclear program both at Central Office and on site at several nuclear plants. After leaving TVA she worked for SAIC (Science Applications International Corporation) at the Watergate Building in Washington DC and in Las Vegas, Nevada on the Yucca Mountain Project. She later worked at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

Marty's specialties were in Records Management, Document Control and Configuration Management. She was a fast learner and competent in multiple areas. Martha continued to work during radiation and chemotherapy treatment for breast cancer, and was in remission. She retired only a few short years ago. She was a dedicated worker, and had a long, exciting and successful career.

It was Martha's wish not to have a public celebration of life service.
