Hettie Inez Barbree, 98, daughter of William Herbert and Lottie Winifred Benefield, passed away on Friday, January 7, 2022. Inez was a lifelong resident of North Chattanooga, raised in church and a lifelong member of Calvary Baptist/First Calvary Baptist Church in North Chattanooga where she served the Lord as Sunday School teacher, Big “A’ leader and various church functions as a volunteer. She touched the lives of uncountable children and youths as a leader. She continued to inspire friends, family, and strangers into her 90’s. A recently made friend said that Mom had taught her to Smile when things got bad. As children we watched Mom feed any of our friends that were hungry no matter their status. Our home was open to any of our friends. Mom was an accomplished seamstress. Over the years she made Cheerleader outfits for College and High School Cheerleadres. Then as the Ladies matured, they would come back for their Wedding Gowns. She also did alterations for friends and family and seldom charged but let them pay what they wished. That was the generosity in her heart. Mom never missed an opportunity to witness for the Lord.
It is with great pleasure to announce that our Mom is with her Lord and Savior.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Judith Annette Barbree Everet; and husband, James Arlie Barbree.
She is survived by her sons, Herbert Arlie Barbree (Freda), Roger Michael Barbree (Cathy), James Patrick Barbree, and grandson, Thomas Michael Everett, 5 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren.
Services will be at 12:00 Noon Thursday, January 13, 2022, in the chapel with Rev. Brian Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens. Visitation is 10:00 p.m. to 12:00 p.m. Thursday prior to the funeral.
