Yuvenne Burdine
Yuvenne Young Burdine, 97, of Hixson TN, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2022. Yuvenne was born on February 15, 1925, in Cannon Creek TN to John R and Mayme S Young.
Her father moved the family to Chattanooga when she was 3 to be able to provide a better living for his growing family. She had three brothers, Russell, Lowell and JR and a sister, Arlene all of whom preceded her in death.
She met John Burdine in the first grade. They graduated from City High School in 1942, John went to work for AT&T and enlisted in the Army. They married on Sept, 19, 1943 and a few weeks later John left to serve in WWII. He returned almost 4 years later and they settled in Chattanooga and John continued his career with AT&T.
His forty plus year career took them from Chattanooga to Nashville, Birmingham, New York City, Atlanta, Charlotte, Atlanta and finally back to retire in Chattanooga. Theirs was a love story that lasted 68 years.
Yuvenne could move to a new city, have pictures on the wall and invite the neighbors to dinner within three days. She was outgoing and made everyone she met feel important. She was involved in PTA for 25 years with her daughter Karen Burdine Mullowney and son Alan Burdine.
Her greatest joy was her Christianity. She was a life-long student of the Bible, teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for most of her life. Yuvenne and John were one of 7 families that established a congregation of the Church of Christ in Chatham New Jersey. He served as elder in several of the congregations they attended and Yuvenne supported him as an elder’s wife. She spent many years as a faithful member of the Soddy Church of Christ.
Yuvenne was known for her hospitality and exceptional cooking. If you were visiting at any church she ever attended, you would be invited into her home for one of the best cooked meals you ever had. Family and friends would always be treated on special occasions to their favorite desert or jelly or jam or casserole. And for Yuvenne, most every day was someone’s special occasion.
She was an amazing example of Christian service, impacting countless lives along her journey.
She is survived by her daughter Karen Burdine Mullowney; son Alan Burdine, grandchildren Pat Mullowney and wife Holleigh, Tara Mullowney, Julie Mullowney and husband Ryan, JM Mullowney and wife Kylee, Christopher Burdine and wife Cristina and Katelyn Burdine; nephews John Young and wife Marlene, Harry Lee Hickey and wife Carol and niece Rhonda Sanders. She has 14 great grandchildren.
She was proceeded in death by parents John R and Mayme S Young, in-laws John S and Jimmy Burdine, husband John S Burdine, Jr, Son John Gregory, brothers Russell Young and wife Anna, Lowell Young, JR Young and wife Edna, sister Arlene Young Sanders and husband HL, son-in-law John Mullowney, daughter-in-law Robin Burdine, nephew Gary Young and grandson Cameron Mullowney.
