Sam Lee Heard

Sam L. Heard, 89, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 29, 2018. He was born on September 11, 1929, in Pikeville, Tennessee and was a resident of Soddy Daisy, Tennessee for most of his adult life. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather that will be truly missed by all who knew him.

Sam is survived by his wife of 69 years, Lennie Heard; four children, Jim (Kim) Heard, Judy (Tom) Rufener, Sammie (Joy) Heard, and Cindy Little; ten grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren.

He served in the United States Army and was a Veteran of the Korean War. He retired from Bottle Gas Service in 1996. He was a member of Mile Straight Baptist for 56 years, where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. Sam was also an avid hunter and had a great passion for sports which was shown through his coaching of numerous baseball teams ranging from little league to high school, and then, in later years as an umpire.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, December 31, 2018 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 1, 2019 at Mile Straight Baptist Church, 8448 Springfield Road, Soddy Daisy, TN 37379; Dr. Al Goss and Dr. Tom Goss will be presiding. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the church.
