Robert Shriver

Robert Elias Shriver, 94, passed away March 3 at his home here, surrounded by his family. A resident of Soddy-Daisy for the past decade, he previously resided in Ormond Beach, FL, and Ashland, OH.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Adam and Ethel (Thomas) Shriver; wives Evelyn Marie (McBride) and Louise (Coffelt); a son, Robert David; and a brother, Mansel.

Robert Elias Shriver was born Dec. 29, 1924, in New Lexington, Ohio, and resided in Ashland, OH, for more than 40 years, where he was a member of the Church of Christ and a volunteer with the Boy Scouts. In Ormond Beach, he was a member of the Holly Hill Church of Christ; and in Soddy-Daisy, a member of the Soddy Church of Christ and American Legion Post 107.

Mr. Shriver served in the Army in WW II in Burma and was awarded two Purple Hearts. He was employed by White-Westinghouse in Mansfield, OH, for more than 30 years. He was a skilled woodworker and toy-maker; a house-builder; and a traveler to a half-dozen countries. He was beloved for his sense of humor and kind, gentle spirit. Above all, Bob was a devoted father, husband and servant of the Lord.

He is survived by his wife, Frances Shriver, of Soddy-Daisy; son Jerry Dean (Debra), of New York City; brother Roger, of Ashland; daughter-in-law Debbie Shriver, of North Canton, OH; grandchildren Thomas David Shriver, of Canton, OH, and Jacquelyn Marie Sladeck, of Los Angeles; stepsons Bill Brown (Billie Jean), and Robert, Carl (Janice), and Jerry Wilkey; stepdaughter Joni Lou Adams; and five nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, 2019; services will follow at 1:00 P.M. at Williamson & Sons Funeral Home with Minister Charles Ables officiating. Interment will follow in Chattanooga National Cemetery with Military Honors.
