Robert P. "Bob" McBride

April 7, 1927 ~ November 8, 2019 (age 92) 92 Years Old

Tribute

Robert P. (Bob) McBride, 92, of Hixson, died November 8, 2019, at his home in Hixson. Bob was a loving, and much loved, husband, father and grandfather to his family. If you asked those who were fortunate enough to count him as a friend, they would agree that you couldn’t ask for a better friend. He was born April 17, 1927 in Birmingham, Alabama.
He was pre-deceased by his wife Sybil and one of his three daughters: Rosemary Arnold.
He is survived by two daughters: Suzanne McBride and Kathy (Bill) Noseworthy, both of Chattanooga. He is also survived by Rosemary’s daughter Tiffany (Les) Henry and Tiffany’s son Aaron of Midway, Tennessee; and by Kathy’s children: Will (Sarah) Noseworthy of Portland, Oregon, and Robin Noseworthy of Chattanooga.
Bob graduated early from Central High School in Hamilton County so he could enlist in the United States Navy. He served in the South Pacific during World War II.
Following his service, he returned to Chattanooga. He spent most of his working life at Dupont in Chattanooga. He worked there for over 25 years and was an area supervisor at the time he retired. Bob and Sybil both enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping. The two of them pursued these activities locally in the southeast and also went camping and hunting to the Western United States and into Canada. They wore out several camping trailers and a few pick-up trucks. When Bob decided to do something he set out to master whatever that activity might be. He decided to take up scuba diving and he ended up as a licensed instructor. He wanted to learn to fly and eventually ended up with his own plane and with a commercial pilot’s license. He and Sybil built a small vacation/retirement home on the Saint John’s River in Florida and he often drove or flew down on vacation or for a long weekend accompanied by family and/or some fortunate friends. After retiring, Bob and Sybil moved to Florida, but couldn’t stay away from Chattanooga and they moved back to Hixson. Bob really enjoyed all of his grandchildren. I believe anyone who knew Bob would agree that he was a “doer”. He didn’t just dream about doing something, he actually did it and did it well.
A graveside service will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, November 23, 2019 in Greenwood Cemetery.
The family would like to thank all of the folks from Adoration Hospice who provided care for Bob and support to his family during the course of the past year.
