Norman Eugene Johnson, 84, of Soddy-Daisy, passed away peacefully in his home on Thursday, March 8, 2018. Norman was a member of the Soddy Church of God where in his younger years, he helped haul bricks to build the new church and was very active in the church bus ministry. He served his country in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of the Korean War. Norman worked for Strickland Pattern Work for many years. He loved woodworking, fishing, the great outdoors and most of all his family. Norman was preceded in death by his infant son, Everett Dewayne; his grandparents who raised him as mom and dad, Sam and Ethel Smith; mother, Mamie Flerl, step-father, Bernard Flerl and father, Howard Johnson.
Survivors are his wife of nearly 63 years, Jean D. Johnson; children, Max (Kim) Johnson, Bill (Janet) Johnson, Tina Cook and Darla (Donnie) Freeman; grandchildren, Blake (Alisha) Freeman, Bradley (Lydia) Freeman, Ben (Britney) Johnson, Whitney (Adam) Enochs, Jonathon Huff, Amber Huff and Ashley Huff; great grandchildren, Jackson, Claire, Josephine, Lawson, Nora Kate and Oliver; sisters, Linda Flerl and Wanda Ford along with several extended family members.
Norman will lie in state on Sunday, March 11, 2018 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Soddy Church of God followed by his funeral service at 3:00 p.m. at the church with Rev. Jerry Justice and Rev. Eddie Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Varner Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
