Melvin Welch

Melvin Ray Welch, 88, of Flat Top Mountain, Soddy-Daisy, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, January 21, 2023.  He was a lifelong resident on the mountain and one of the founding members of Flat Top Independent Church where he served as a Senior Member, Deacon and the Chairman of the Council. He loved the Lord and doing things for his church and community.  Melvin was a builder and helped build the new church building and fellowship hall.  The church named the fellowship hall and gymnasium The Melvin Welch Family Life Center in his honor. He retired from Combustion Engineering as a Nuclear Inspector.  Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, Newt and Frankie Welch; brothers, Elmer Welch, L.C. Welch; sister, Reba Hughes; first wife, Dorothy Coleman Welch and precious son, Steve Welch.

Survivors are his wife, Betsy Welch; children, Danny Welch (Phyllis), Ricky Welch (Sharon) and Cindy Conners (Brian); step-children, Tim Pickett (Brenda), Rick Pickett; grandchildren, Jodi Massengale (David), Jason Welch (Jennifer), Josh Welch (Tammy), Matt Conners, Cassie Huettel (Jordan), Wesley Pickett and Casey Christopher (Jason); several great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family.

Visitation will be on Monday, January 23, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  Services will be on Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Joe Davis and Rev. Kevin Shelton officiating.  Burial will follow at Bowman Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the Dayton Office of Hospice of Chattanooga and all the prayers from our family and friends.
