James Howard “Chip” Smith, 41, of Soddy-Daisy, passed away on Saturday, February 1, 2020. He was a devoted Christian and graduated from Soddy-Daisy High School in the class of 1996. Chip served as a police officer since 1998 in several local police departments. He was a member of the Soddy-Daisy Volunteer Fire Department since 1994. Chip was a Hunter Safety instructor for TWRA and served as a Game Warden. He enjoyed fishing and coon hunting. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, George H. and Helen Smith and Leroy and Clarice Smith.
Survivors are his son, Logan Smith; wife, Melissa Smith; parents, Jerry and Alma Smith; sister and brother-in-law, Melissa and Peeper Beach ; nephew, Hunter Stolz; niece, Erin Stolz; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mike and Trisha Marlow and extended family.
Services will be on Friday, February 7, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Bishop Calvin Nunley officiating. Burial will follow at Poe Cemetery. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Soddy-Daisy Police Department, Soddy-Daisy Fire Department, Red Bank Police Department, Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department and the Honor Guard of the Chattanooga Police Department. Visitation is Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
