James Robert McConnell

James Robert McConnell died peacefully at home on Monday, January 11, 2021, he was 90 years old. Today, he calls Heaven his home. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ida Mae Marler McConnell and stepson Rick Myers. He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Jo Ann Austin McConnell; his children: Lynda Gooden (Tom), Debra Perin (Al), James Richard McConnell (Joy), stepson, William Myers (Mary); grandchildren: Kimberly Newton, James Tucker McConnell and Molly McConnell; great-granddaughter, Belle Newton.

Mr. McConnell was a Marine Veteran of the Korean War. He was retired from TVA. He was an outdoorsman, living on Chickamauga Lake for 40+ years, and was a founding member of the Highland Sportsman Club. He was known as “Bobcat” to club members, a TWRA Hunter’s Safety Instructor over 40 years, and an avid collector for the Marines “Toys for Tots” program.

Mr. McConnell will be laid to rest at a private graveside service on Tuesday, January 19, 2021. A special thank you to his private caregiver, Tammy Gifford, as well as Hospice of Chattanooga homecare staff, Rebecca and Amy. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions, in his honor, to the TWRA Hunter’s Safety Program, or the Marines Toys for Tots Program.
