James (Jim) Langley, 85, of Soddy Daisy, Tennessee, passed away on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, with family by his side. Mr. Langley was born in Chattanooga in 1937, the son of the late Bessie Redden Tucker. He graduated from Kirkman High School and worked for Chattanooga Times Free-Press, was a beloved bus driver for Hamilton County Schools for 21 years and retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad where he was president of his local union. He enjoyed the outdoors and was a commercial fisherman known for hand-grabbling (noodling) for large catfish. He also coached youth baseball and basketball.
In addition to his mother, Mr. Langley was preceded in death by his wife, Edna (Betty) Phillips Langley; brother, Bobby Richie; stepfather, Zelus Redden; grandmother, Ella Langley; step grandfather, Joseph Holois; his son-in-law, Fred Gann and his beloved dog, Annie.
Survivors include three children, Steve (Leslie) Langley, Cindy Gann, and Beth (Steve) Swayne; his sister, Wanda (Bob) Donaldson; four grandchildren, Brittany Gann, Tiffany Langley, Brandon (Kristen) Gann, Travis Langley; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation for friends and family will be Friday, July 29 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. and Saturday, July 30 from 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Funeral services will be 12:00 p.m. Saturday, July 30, 2022 at Williamson and Sons Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions be made to Summit View Assisted Living or Hospice of Chattanooga.
