James Isaac Johnson

James Johnson, 94, passed away on Wednesday, November 20, 2019. He was a 1943 graduate of Soddy Daisy High School. Upon graduation he entered the US Army becoming P.F.C. during WWII from September 8, 1943 to December 30, 1945 in the 36th Infantry Division. Receiving the Purple Heart, 4 Bronze Stars, WWII Victory Medal, and part of E.A.M.E Theatre. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #418 F&AM in Soddy. James worked at Combustion Engineering as a draftsman for over 30 years.

James was very devoted to his family. He married Betty L. Sutherland in 1947. He was known to tell others he married the prettiest girl in Soddy Daisy. He lost his wife in 2010 and his son James “Ike” Johnson, Jr. in 2018.

He was the 12th child born to Isaac S. Johnson and Stella T. Johnson. All 12 of his siblings and their spouses precede him in death.

Survivors are his daughters, Carolyn Johnson and Janet Johnson; grandchildren, Rebecca Simmons and Corbin Vickery; and daughter-in-law, Karen Johnson. He has many cousins, nieces, nephews, and in-laws.

Services will be held in the funeral home chapel on Monday, November 25, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Calvin Nunley presiding. Burial with full military honors will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends and loved ones from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 24, 2019 at the funeral home.
