Greggory Todd Mickel, 58, of Hixson, passed away on October 24, 2019. He had a Baptist faith upbringing. He graduated from Hixson High School and was a member of the Wildcats Wrestling team. He then attended UTC, majoring in geology. From an early age he was an avid stamp collector, buying his first gallon jar of stamps at the age of five, while in Daytona, FL for the Daytona 500 race with his grandfather, Tommy Shelton. He had a love for Nascar and among his many talents was building classic show cars. Early on he also developed a love for cooking. He owned and operated Classic Woodworks in Hixson for several years, showcasing his staggering craftsmanship. Throughout the years, he honed his gift of building model airplanes and his enthusiasm for building numerous aquatic gardens and fish ponds. In later years, Greg became an expert in computer and IT construction and repair.

Greg was preceded in death by his father, Clarence (Red) Mickel; paternal grandparents George and Elsea Mickel; maternal grandparents Thomas and Maude Shelton; and aunt Ellen Shelton.

He is survived by his mother, Sue Shelton Mickel; Jerry Jones, who was like a father; brother, Randy Mickel; daughter, Madison Mickel (Gregory Raymer); son, Joshua Mickel; grandson, Hutton Raymer; niece, Andrea Rice and her children; and numerous other aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Special gratitude and appreciation to his longtime friend, Donald (Duck) Durham and his wife, Gretchen, for their enduring commitment to Greg, most notably during his recent health issues.

Greg will be missed by family and friends. There will be no visitation or services at this time. Private memorial service and celebration of his life will be held by the family at a later date. Any donations or flowers may be sent to your charity of choice in the name of his grandson.
