George Don “Red” Smith
George Don “Red” Smith passed away on August 5, 2018, surrounded by family at Soddy Daisy Healthcare Center. His sisters would like to give a special thanks to the Staff, Nurses and CNAs at Soddy Daisy Health Center. He was well known for always providing wagon rides with his team of horses at many benefits and helping people who were in need. He had given so many wagon rides at the fall festival of North Hamilton County Elementary School that they made him a PTA member for life. He was also passionate about donating to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. He was a retired ironworker, a husband, father, grandfather, and a friend to many.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Carroll “Harvey” Smith, parents, George and Louise Smith, brothers, William Robert and Leon “Honky” Smith, and sister, Hazel Smith Walker.
He leaves behind sons, Kevin (Jennifer) Smith, Donnie (Tonya) Smith, daughter, Dianea (Stanley) Crist, sisters, Brenda (Riley) Sims, Trish Fletcher, Linda Sneed, brother, Gene (Donna) Smith, as well as seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital in memory of Red Smith.
Services will be held in the funeral home chapel on August 11, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. with Bishop Daniel Smith and Bishop Rick Smith presiding. Interment will follow at Bakewell Crest Mountain Cemetery. The family will receive friends and loved ones from 4:00 to 8:00 on Friday at the funeral home.
