Freddie Leon Schmid, Sr.

Freddie Schmid, Sr., 84, lifelong resident of Soddy Daisy, TN. Freddie attended Middle Tennessee State University and received a master’s degree in education from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Freddie began teaching at the age of 20 at Ganns Middle Valley Elementary and was principal at Mowbray Elementary School, John Allen Elementary, Soddy Elementary, and retired as principal from Soddy Daisy Middle School.

His hobbies included hunting, fishing and gardening.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Katie Schmid, sisters, Sarah Ruth Murvine and Margie (Bill) Haley, brother, David Schmid, and grandson, Cameron Byrne. 

Survivors are his wife of 61 years, Vivian Webb Schmid; children, Angela Schmid Jackson (Jeff), Freddie Schmid Jr (Mistee), Anita Schmid Mills (Thomas); brother, Otto Schmid (Carol); as well as seven grandchildren.

Visitation is Friday, August 2, 2019 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Saturday, August 3, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Allan Stewart presiding. Burial will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in Memphis, TN.
