Donald “Don” Simmons, 79, of Hixson, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 22, 2020. He resided in Dunlap the last 17 years. Donald was a member of the Middle Valley Church of God where he served as the church clerk. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Donald retired from Wrenn Handling in 2000. He was an all-around handyman and an avid Braves fan. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Ruby Simmons; brother, Wilburn Simmons and son, Robert “Robby” Cunningham.
Survivors are his wife of 48 years, LaCreta Simmons; daughter, Angela “Angie” Bledsoe (Darren); 4 grandchildren, Beth King (Jonathan), Brandon Cunningham (April), Patrick “Cody” Dennis (Courtney) and Meghann Bledsoe; 6 great grandchildren; sisters, Debra Daughtan (Jimmie), Wilma Roberts; several nieces and nephews and extended family.
Services will be on Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at 12:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Bishop Mitch McClure officiating. Burial will follow at National Cemetery. Visitation is Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
