David Smith, Sr.

David Franklin (Dad) Smith Sr. earned his heavenly wings on June 25, 2018. He met his Lord and Savior while surrounded by his loving wife, children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl Glenn and Ruby Mae Smith.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Wanda Elrod Smith; sons, David F. (Pam) Smith Jr., of Soddy-Daisy, TN; Daniel G. Smith of Memphis, and daughter, Kimberly D. Smith of Memphis; grandchildren, Christen Smith, Joshua Smith, Garret Smith, Logan Moon, Ely Smith, and Ella Smith; 3 precious great-granddaughters, Hallie Wimberly, Ashlynn Wimberly and Emma Powell; several nieces and nephews, brother, Ronald Smith; 3 sisters, Ina Horton, Ruby McGee, and Janice Buttrum.

Mr. Smith graduated from City High School class of 1957. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sikeston, Missouri for 30 years where he worked with the youth. He was a Sunday school teacher, young adult teacher, and a Deacon. He was also co-commissioner of junior and senior basketball leagues. His leadership was known for 25 years with the Sikeston Church slow pitch softball league. David was also very active in the Sikeston community serving as past president of the Kiwanis Club of Sikeston. David retired from Noranda Alum Inc., New Madrid, Missouri in October 2001. For 16 years he was a co-owner of Wimpie’s Country Restaurant in Soddy-Daisy, TN. He is a member of Freedom Church in Soddy-Daisy, TN.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, June 30, 2018, at Williamson & Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Battles and Jim Buttram, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens. Billy Horton, Garret Smith, Joshua Smith, Ty McGee, Max McGee, Dee Powell, Michael Smith, and Ely Smith will serve as pallbearers. David’s wish was for donations to Freedom Church of Soddy Daisy, 11150 Dayton Pike, Soddy Daisy, TN in lieu of flowers. The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 9:00 PM. on Friday, June 29, at the funeral home.
