Charles Columbus Qualls, Sr., 89, of Mowbray Mountain, passed away on Tuesday, November 14, 2023. Born in Rickman, Tennessee, he lived most of his life on the mountain. He was of the Church of God faith. Charles served his country in the U.S. Air Force and retired after 20 years of service and was a veteran of the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He retired from TVA and also worked at Fabricator’s Inc. Charles collected Coca-Cola memorabilia and enjoyed planting his garden and flower beds. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Evadna Qualls and sisters, Betty Qualls Vandergriff, Jimmie Jo Holland and Mary Ruth Alexander.
Survivors are his wife of 71 years, Marlene Qualls; sons, Charles Qualls, Jr. and Larry Qualls (Patsy); daughter, Pam Qualls Harris; grandchildren, Nathan Qualls (Amy), Tommy Qualls (Amy), Will Harris (Kendra) and Heather Qualls; great grandchildren, Brayden Mooneyham, Auburn Harris, Haeli Harris, Avery Harris, Kyndall Harris, Savannah Qualls, Logan Qualls, Caleb Qualls, Abigail Qualls, Ava Qualls and Aidan Ross; sisters, Susie Hogue (Brad) and Anna May Lockhart (Chester) and extended family.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 16, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Services will be on Friday, November 17, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at National Cemetery with full military honors provided by the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard.
