Billy Mynatte Shadwick, 90, of Soddy Daisy, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on May 18, 2020. He was a Lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Soddy Daisy.
Billy was born the ninth of ten children to loving parents on June 8, 1929 in their home in Daisy, TN. After graduating from Soddy Daisy High School in 1947, he followed his childhood dream of joining the military.
He served his country for sixteen years in the Unites States Air Force and twelve years in the Army Reserves. He fought in the Korean War, and completed seven tours of duty overseas; including Korea, Japan, two tours in Saudi Arabia, Greenland and two tours in Panama.
After retiring from the Air Force, Billy went on to earn a B.S. Degree, Med. Degree and Ed.S. Degree, all from Middle Tennessee State University.
Billy taught Junior High in the Chattanooga Public School System, retiring with twenty five years of service. He also shared his passion for education by teaching adult students as they prepared for their GED exams.
He loved his country and he loved history. An avid reader, Billy read almost every book ever published about the Korean War.
Billy had many hobbies, but two of his favorites were flying and tending his blueberries.
Billy was preceded in death by his wife of sixty five years, Shirley Jean Shadwick; parents, John Thomas Shadwick and Mary Frances “Molly” Shadwick; brothers, Ray, Roy, James Floyd and Joe Shadwick; sisters, Lillian Christian, Lela Ruth Shadwick, Hazel Penney and Helen Smith.
He is survived by his daughter, Kimberly (Shadwick) Hales and her husband, Eddie Hales; son, Hank Williams; sister, June Buckner; grandson, Matthew Williams; granddaughter, Colbe Williams and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be private with the family.
