Mary Hamill
Mary Lou Hamill, 95, of Chattanooga, passed away on Thursday, November 23, 2017. She was born the fourth of ten children: eight girls and two boys. She was very proud to be the first in her family to graduate high school.
In 1947, she married E.J. Hamill Jr. when he returned from his service in WWII. Before retiring in 1983, she worked as a payroll clerk for twenty-nine years at Crane Company. She and E.J. enjoyed traveling, both overseas and stateside. Between 1983 and 2000, they visited every state (except Alaska) and eight countries in Europe and the Middle East.
Mary Lou was known as a friendly lady who loved to joke around. On a typical day, you could find her enjoying the simple pleasures in life; taking walks, swimming, and sitting on her porch watching birds. She could be happy reading her Bible or talking on the phone for hours.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mamie and Walter Burkhart; six of her siblings, Norman, James Walter Jr., Mable, Mildred, Marjorie, and Marceil; and daugher-in-law, Peggy Hamill. Survivors include three sisters, June Plunkett, Martha Sue Smith, and Phyllis Waller; children, Susan Izell (Frank) and David Hamill (Wanda); grandchildren, Kelly Izell (Kate) and Adam Izell; plus many friends from all over.
Visitation will be held from 1–3 p.m., and a funeral service will be held immediately following on Monday, November 27, with Jerome Frandle and Loren Spellman officiating. The family respectfully requests that no flowers be sent. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in her name to the Hospice of Chattanooga Foundation, P.O.
